Recently, about a week ago, I stopped seeing the "New comments" (backlight in red) message in my cards when someone made a new comment. What's the problem? Please help.

If the red badge still doesn't appear, please let us know if you are using the Trello Web version or the Desktop App. Also, does this happen across all boards or just a specific one?
The most common reason is that you are not "Watching" the card, or a local browser cache issue is preventing the UI from updating correctly.
"Watching" is the core mechanism for triggering new activity highlights. Trello does not highlight changes on all cards by default to avoid excessive noise on large boards
