I can't move the new list or even existing list. It says "unable to move the list".

I've already archived hundreds of old cards and still not helping. I can't add new cards as well, they just disappear. Before that I tried to archive the longest list of cards..

Any advice on this? Thank you.

It looks like you marked your own response here as an Accepted answer? This flags the issue as resolved, which judging by your additional remark, I don't think it is?

Maybe some more info could help: does this occur for all boards/workspaces, have you tried the usual "other browsers, incognito, etc...", are you moving inside a board, to another board, to another workspace, do you have the right permissions, have you reached any Free plan limitations?

Aleksandra_0fap68

Yes, just by accident answered to myself

Thank you! I am admin with all permissions in all workspaces. I am trying to move the list inside the same board the same as add a new card in the same board. It's not working. As I read there are no limitations for the cards..

Nils_hfhtap

I just had a similar glitch like it; maybe it's temporary?

Personally I can't think of much causing this for now.

Are there any automations (Butler, Zapier) running on the board that might interfere?
Does just dragging the list work?
Is it a 'heavy set' board, with lots of link cards maybe?

It's okay to reply to yourself, but if you "accept" your own (or any response) it gets set to Solved and your question might get less traction here.

I hit up the support bot and it says this:

Here are some probable causes for the "Unable to move list" error in Trello on a Free plan:

---

### 1. Board or Workspace Permissions
- On Free Workspaces, all members are admins, but being a Workspace admin does not automatically grant admin rights on every board. If you are not a board admin, you may not have permission to move lists within that board[^01^].

---

### 2. Board Limits
- Free Workspaces are limited to 10 open boards. If your Workspace has reached this limit, you may encounter restrictions or errors when trying to perform certain actions, though this typically affects board creation rather than list movement[^02^].

---

If none of these situations apply, and you are still experiencing the issue, there may be a more specific technical problem not covered in the available documentation.

Hi @Aleksandra ,

Welcome to the community!

Are you trying to move the list to a different board? Usually, that message appears when trying to move the list to a board that is almost reaching its limit.

You also mentioned you archived the card and still have the same issue. Does the same thing happen on other boards as well, or is the problem specific to one particular board?

Another issue is that as soon as you add a new card, it disappear. There could be two reasons:

By chance, are you using some Power-up like Snooze, which archives cards for a while? Or maybe there is an automation running that archives those cards automatically?

Thank you!

Sam Simons

I am experiencing this as well. We are an Enterprise user. Cards elsewhere move fine. On this board, which has 1000+ cards it snaps back to the original list within 6 to 7 seconds. If I try to Move the List it displays the error message.
