Table number automation

Question

How do you insert auto numbering a table in Confluence?

I think you have to insert a macro (our firm has Table Plus option) but cannot seem to get it to work...

Hi @Connie Murphy ,

On Confluence Data Center you can use the Table Plus “Row Number” macro to auto-number your rows:

* Click Edit on your page.
* Choose Insert → Other macros.
* Search for Row Number under Table Plus, then insert it into the header cell of the column you want numbered.
* Save or preview your page—each row should now increment automatically.

If you ever move to Confluence Cloud, the free Simple Table app has row numbering built-in as a core feature. It’s a great way to keep your tables tidy and portable.

Welcome to the community!

By right clicking on the table, then click on Table options, click numbered column. This should display the numbered column.
