For Pull Requests - Dont Push the Accept/Deny Buttons to the Left

Upon opening a pull request URL for review, the deny/approval buttons shift to the left a few seconds after page load.

Why is this bad? If I know I want to immediately DENY a pull request from getting merged, my cursor will click the APPROVE button because it got shifted to where the DENY button was half a second ago. I can luckily catch this quicker than our CI/CD and DENY it again immediately after.

This happens because the Merge button is initially a spinner on page load (smaller width), then becomes wider, pushing the buttons to the left.

May I know which browser you are using? I can't reproduce the issue you've described - the buttons are not shifting for me, they stay in the same place when I navigate to the PR after opening it.

Hi Ben,

My mistake, it wasn't the merge button causing the push, its the yellow hazard "merge is blocked" icon which appears after page load.

I've created a PR with a merge conflict for testing purposes - again, the yellow Merge button stays in the same place and does not shift positions at all. Unfortunately - I'm still unable to reproduce the issue.

May you please let me know which browser & version you're using - and see if you can reproduce this in other browsers? A screen recording would be helpful as well.

Maybe the correct term is "merge blocking issues" ?

Here is lined up screenshot right upon page load (top -- no yellow hazard) and one after page load (bottom -- has yellow hazard inserted and pushes everything to the left).

I am running the latest Chrome on a Mac M2 Pro.
