Are there differences between JIRA API and JIRA Service Management API?

Are there differences between JIRA API and JIRA Service Management API? 

We have developed an integration using JIRA API.   We have tested the same with JIRA Cloud Software platform.  We would like to know if the same implementation would work with JIRA Service Management platform as well.

The Jira REST API would work for a JSM project. The JSM API is dealing with specific JSM functionality, like assets, KBs, customers etc. You can see the differences if you access the Cloud REST API documentation found here.
