How do I remove or turn off the JIRA Activity Stream plug in?

This question is in reference to Atlassian Documentation: Managing Add-ons or Plugins

I'm told that there are 238 modules in this plugin, but I can't modify any of them. Is it possible to just switch off the Activity Stream?
