special price for schools ?

Question

Hello,

I am a teacher in a vocational high school and I am currently developing a project with my first year class around taking disability into account in their future career. We have chosen to develop this project using the Trello tool which will allow me to introduce it to its future professionals.

However I had to pay for the basic subscription out of my own pocket for $60 because I can't afford more.Is it possible to upgrade to the premium subscription without any extra charge since it is a subscription intended for Scholars please?

Thank you in advance for your understanding and I wish you a very good day.

Hi @ROBINE,

What a rich learning experience your students are receiving!

As a teacher, you can apply for a Classroom license which provides you with 75% off the list price of Premium.

$10 per month billed annually becomes $2.50 per user. $12.50 per month billed monthly becomes $3.13 per user. https://trello.com/pricing

We'd love to learn more about how you are using Trello as a teaching tool! You can email me at social-impact-teams@atlassian.com.

Premium Solutions · Answer

Dear Muriel Robine,

Thank you for reaching out and for the wonderful work you’re doing with your students, especially focusing on inclusivity and disability awareness—a vital topic for any professional career.

Unfortunately, as a teacher using Trello for your classroom project, there isn’t a direct way to upgrade to the Premium subscription at no extra charge, but there are options you can explore:

---

1. Trello for Education Discounts
Trello does not currently have a specific educational discount program. However, Atlassian (the parent company of Trello) offers **free versions of many of their tools for educational purposes**. You could contact their support team directly at [Atlassian Support](https://support.atlassian.com/) to inquire about eligibility for free or discounted access. Explain your situation as an educator using the tool for a class project, and they may be able to provide assistance.

---

2. Nonprofit and Educational Grants
Atlassian also has a **community license program** for nonprofit organizations. While it's mainly for NGOs, educational institutions with nonprofit activities sometimes qualify. Learn more and apply [here](https://www.atlassian.com/software/views/community-license-request).

---

3. Alternatives to Trello Premium
If obtaining the Premium version isn’t possible, consider maximizing the free version with features like:
- **Butler Automation** (limited in free plans but still usable).
- **Add-ons and Integrations** like Google Drive or Dropbox to extend functionality.
- Using **custom labels and checklists** to mimic some Premium features.

---

4. Crowdfunding or Community Support
Since this project aligns with inclusive education goals, consider reaching out to local organizations, school boards, or parent-teacher associations for small grants or crowdfunding. Platforms like **DonorsChoose** (if available in your region) or local education-focused charities could help cover additional costs.

---

Contact Trello Directly
The best immediate action would be to contact Atlassian's support directly and describe your situation. You can find their contact form [here](https://trello.com/contact). Be clear about your role as an educator, your project goals, and the financial constraints.

---

I hope one of these solutions works out for you and your class! Your dedication to introducing such meaningful concepts in a hands-on way is truly commendable. Good luck with your project, and feel free to reach out for further assistance!

Warm regards,
