We Need Your Input on Patterns in the Assets Discovery App!

Zakhar Listiev

Dear Assets Discovery Community,

We are excited to announce that we're planning to add a built-in patterns editor to the Discovery app! Our goal is to make it easier for you to create and modify patterns directly from the app, enhancing your overall experience and security.

To ensure this new feature meets your needs, we would love to hear from you:

• How often do you modify existing patterns or use custom patterns in the Discovery app?
• Can you describe the scenarios where you use custom patterns the most?

Your feedback is invaluable to us. Understanding how you use patterns will help us tailor the editor to better support your workflows.

Please share your thoughts and experiences by replying to this article.

Thank you for being a vital part of our community and helping us make the Assets Discovery app even better!

Best regards,

Assets Discovery team.

Hi Zakhar,

Thank you for raising this topic. In our case, we found that HP-UX systems using the default Linux patterns provided very limited information, mainly just the hostname.

To retrieve more data, we would need to create custom patterns with SNMP. However, this process requires specialized SNMP/OID knowledge and testing tools, which makes it challenging for JSM administrators without such expertise.

We haven’t started SNMP development and testing yet, but these technical requirements highlight some of the barriers administrators might face.

I hope this perspective adds value to the discussion.

Best,

Ssu-Yuan
