How to update a custom date field using CLI?

I tried to use the CLI to update a custom date field. It reports success but field is not updated. I suspect my date format is wrong. Anyone has a working example.

The field must be available for update on the edit screen for the issue. JIRA ignores updates for fields not available from the UI.
You will be given an invalid date format error if the date entered does not match the format expected by JIRA

Example:

--action setFieldValue --field custom-date --value 2/Feb/15 --issue XXX-11
