How can I edit text of a status message without adding a new status?

Question

We put incorrect text in a status update in Atlassian Statuspage incident notification. When we go to edit the status message text, we dont see how we can only edit the message without adding a new status update? It seems like a very odd limitation. Hopefully I'm missing something!
