How to automatically add Epic Link to Stories that are newly created on scheduled date

Hi guys,

 

Here is what I have right now:

I have 12 Monthly Epics for this year, for example, Jan 2023, Feb 2023, Mar 2023, Apr 2023, etc.

Now, I need to create monthly Story on every 25th of the month and its Epic Link needs to be the applicable Epic (month year).

So for example, on August 25th, a Story needs to be automatically created and it should be under Epic, "Aug 2023".

 

I could build an automation that automatically creates the Monthly Stories on scheduled date (every 25th of the month), but I have no idea how to find an appropriate Epic using summary and link it to that.

 

Does anyone has any idea to make this work?

Hi @Caleb Park 

For a given month's story (e.g., August 25th) can you write a JQL statement to find the Epic, perhaps based on the summary or description?

If you can, you can write an automation rule to both create the story and find the parent epic to which it is assigned.
