Changing a project's issue type scheme using the Java API

Question

Hey,

On a Jira plugin for Jira DC I am trying to change a project's Issue Type Scheme.
I was able to discover how to do it for several other schemes (Issue Type Screen Scheme and Workflow Scheme for example), but I was not able to discover how to it with Issue Type Scheme.

Any ideas?

@Nic Brough -Adaptavist- In the workflow scheme I am checking first that there are no issues in that project, and here I will check that all issue types of the current project's issues are available in the new issue type scheme.

I am trying to do something similar the cloud's API for "Assign issue type scheme to project"

How is your workflow scheme change handling all the migration compatibility checks?  Are you planning to do the same with issue type changes?
