Searching Jira Issue based on Request Type.

Question

Just confirming can one RUN a jira search query based on Request Type in JSM unless it is linked to a jira field?

I am trying to run such a search based on Request Type only but seem it has to be linked to some field.

If not, what is the alternative guys?

you can use "Request Type" field (provided by JSM as a field) in order to search tickets based on the original request type used at portal level.

"Request type" is implemented as a custom field, instead of a system function - since at least Jira 3 and probably earlier (possibly 2, but I never had to code for that version), custom field types have been an easier way to get some data storage thing into Jira, and Atlassian have stuck with that.

You can't add more fields of that type to your Jira, the field only exists if you have JSM installed, it is locked (if you are on server/dc, do not unlock it), and it has some extra functions that select-lists do not.

But, yes, a search shows it working like a select-list custom field, because that is at the heart of it!

Just take care never to let an admin create another field called "request type" (actually, that goes for any field - never duplicate field names, reuse and share)
