When merging changes to master if --log is omitted then Jira doesn't show those tickets as deployed to Production

Is there a way to correct this - even if it means artificially adding a commit comment to a dummy commit?

I bet you have an automation to update tickets to "Deployed to Production" right? Check if what are the conditions to make that work.
