I am installing a new copy of jira 5.2.2 on Scientific Linux 64-bit. I downloaded and executed the 'atlassian-jira-5.2.2-x64.bin' installer (as root) and ran through a custom installation. At no point was I asked about user details and the installation completed stating the server was running and accessible at localhost:8080.
As root, when I attempt to stop the server using /etc/init.d/jira stop the following occurs:
> executing using dedicated user
> /sbin/runuser: user jira does not exist
# id jira
> id: jira: No such user
The installation instructions at https://confluence.atlassian.com/display/JIRA/Installing+JIRA+on+Linux state If you executed the Linux Installer with 'root' user privileges, the Linux Installer creates a dedicated Linux user account with username 'jira' and no password, which is used to run JIRA.
This did not happen.
