Automatic page numbering in a space

Hi Community,

is there already a solution to this problem?

Pages should be automatically numbered based on their hierarchy (similar to the PDF export table of contents)

Lets say like this: 1st level 1 - 1.1. Level 2 - 1.1.1 Level 3.

Not sure why you would want to do that for an online document, but there is not an easy way to do what you want to do. You could change the CSS to have the left-hand navigation bullets be numbered BUT that would not be reflected in the page titles.

You would need to develop some sort of plugin that is able to dynamically retitle pages (a bit hard as all pages are stored flat). And it would be much easier if Confluence allowed macros in page titles.

And even if you could develop such a plugin, any renumbering is probably going to break links from other pages to these pages.

The easiest method in this case is to just manually number your pages. While it is manual, probably a lot quicker than trying to develop a slick solution. Or do what 99.9% of other Confluence users do, and manually reorder pages when needed.

Are you wanting to number the page titles as headings during PDF export, or while displayed within Confluence?
