How do I get a heading for table of contents

Question

When I insert a table of contents, I want to have a heading labeled "Contents" and then list the TOC. How can I do this?

When I do that, and I want to make it a header to stand out and look good, it becomes part of the table of contents which looks terrible and confusing to users
