@mention-Function doesn't work

The @mention-Function was used to work on our installation. Some weeks ago user informed us (the administrators) that the function obviously doesn't work properly any more. When you start typing a user's name in the edit page-mode the pull down menu appears an it's still possible to select a user who should receive an E-Mail. The result is, that no message is sent. The system itself (Confluence) can still send E-Mails, e.g. the share-function sends E-Mails which can be watched in the mail log.

We tried to deactivate/re-activate the mentions-plugins and deactivated all user-installed plugins with no success. Do you have any suggestions?

The log files atlassian-confluence.log and catalina.out show no error messages or hint what could be the reason.

The resolution was that a script automatically de-activated the 'notify watchers'-checkbox. By activating the notify-watchers-function also the @mention did work again.

Hello Peter,

Maybe this can be related with indexes, so in a first approach I would suggest you to try to rebuild your content indexes from the scratch by the following:

Shut down your Confluence server.
Make a backup of your <confluence-home>/index/plugin directory if it exists. This is where the Usage Tracking plugin stores it's index for the usage statistics and it cannot be rebuilt.
Remove the <confluence-home>/index directory.
If in step 2, you have the <confluence-home>/index/plugin directory, create the <confluence-home>/index directory and copy in the backup of <confluence-home>/index/plugin directory made in step 2.
Restart server - A new index directory will be created upon restart of your application.
Now perform the manual re-indexing of your site to build a brand new index from scratch by these steps: https://confluence.atlassian.com/display/CONF43/Content+Index+Administration#ContentIndexAdministration-RebuildingtheContentIndexes

Then try to check the mentions again. Hope this helps.

This worked for me. But I am unsure why it happened as it was a fresh install of Confluence and the first time I went to use @mention it didn't show any user results.
