How to receive workbox notifications in the OS

Question

Hi experts

Most of the users prefer not to open the navigator for using Confluence and receiving emails with the content of the pages or the changes, and that makes very difficult to encourage them to use it properly. It makes unuseful the workbox notifications.

Is there any way that they could receive the workbox notifications at the OS level, with the navigator off, so they could receive these notifications and avoiding the continous flux of emails? Is there any plugin that makes that?

Thank you so much in advance.

Thank you for such a comprehensive answer.
The OS is Windows 10, and the browsers can be Edge, Chrome or Firefox, depending on the task we’re working on, but mostly Chrome.

Yes, you can do this, but there is no way to enforce it or to get it to work for everyone.

To simplify things a bit, go back to the basics.  Confluence is a service, people connect to it with clients.  Most of the time, this will be a web-application to browser connection.

With web pages, the server can ask the browser if it would display a notification to the human using the site.  Most modern browsers support it fine (albeit more popular browsers ask the human if they want the notifications and most humans say "no", so you can't inflict unwanted messages on them).  And most browsers default to feeding those messages on to the OS's notification system.

But the browser is not the OS (unless for some unknown reason, you're using Emacs), even when you're on a chromebook where a browser is pretty much your only interface!

TLDR: if you want Confluence to use OS notifications, you need to be running a client system on that OS that will be listening for Confluence to yell "Please tell someone this"

So... what OS and what client are you looking for?  (Other than an active browser session)
