Set a field thru script that is not on the screen

Hi,

I'm looking for a consistent way to set fields on an issue when the field is not really on the screen.

In the documentation I found the 

issueInputParameters.setSkipScreen(true) option but for some reason it doesn't seem to work for me.

Now I'm wondering if I'm just confused on how this works.

If I set this parameter, will this turn off the check and ignore any errors or will it set the fields regardless whether they are on the screen or not.
