what exactly are you talking about when you say "report on KB articles" ? Could you please share a screenshot maybe of what you're trying to do, or describe what is not working ?

Yeah, this is unclear from the question.

I would like to create a monthly report that shows me how many Knowledgebase Articles were created, updated, and/or retired

You can use REST API to create reports on your articles created/updated/expired etc. Refer this thread for other solution which can be achieved using labels.
