Hi how much size we should increase for having an attachments

Hi All,

As per the documentation the max size of the file per attachment can be 2 GB. Currently i have configured 30 mb as the maximum size

But i would like to know what should be the best practice or how much configuration we should have for the maximum size of attachment in the JSM ?

So basically i would like to know what would be the consequences of keeping the configuration to max 2gb for attachments size ?

This is a really personal question, the system itself can handle large files like you mention but you'll have to ask yourself if this is something you want your users to provide.

If they send a few screenshots or maybe a document then a few megabytes should be plenty.

Personally I follow your approach in having a smaller size (like your 30MB) and adjust that as needed. If you have a lot of complaints that people can't send you their files then you could increase.

When we talk about large files you'll have to consider why they are sending such large files and what they contain.

So in my humble opinion, start small and increase if needed. If you however increase it a lot you'll have to consider if these files actually belong in Jira.

I was trying to understand what can be the consequences if i increase the size in the configuration , will it results into increase in overall disk space utilization.

As attachment folder will not have bigger files and so the overall size of the folder would increase so will there be any impact on the overall application or something ?

Not really no, Jira does not reserve the space before hand so you only increase the risk of having larger files and thus consuming more disk space in the end.

My philosophy remains with the idea that if you don't need to have the large file size for a specific reason, you should stick with a smaller one (that is still acceptable for your end users) and increase if needed.

Overall it shouldn't affect the application, you just might need more disk space in the long run if people start adding more and large files.

I would not be concerned for now and stick to your 30MB

Thanks but i have integration of JIRA with SF and i need those large files to flow from SF to JIRA , hence was thinking to increase the size till 100 mb.
