Can I configure when I get emails for watched issues based on criteria?

Question

I get sooo many JIRA emails because I have to watch a lot of issues. 90% of them are instantly deleted. I'd like to be able to configure when I get an email on an issue I watch based on some criteria, like when status is set to a certain value. Is this possible or in the works? Would be a great feature! Example: Click on "Start watching this issue" and sidebar or popup appears to let me enter some basic criteria like When = (i.e. When Status = Closed).

What about creating that specific criteria in JQL, save as a filter, and then subscribe to that filter (like every 15 min). Something like:

Wouldn't that do the job?
