Gantt Chart

Hi!

We have Jira Structure plug in and we want to use Gantt Chart to track the progress of the project and see the whole picture. However, I cann't find the answer to my question.

What we do: we have a project which has some Jira tickets. Every ticket represents the specific task to do for the team. Every task has an estimated time.

Example: Let's say there is a task IMP-1 "Create a power point presentation" and we expect to spend 10 hours to complete the task. The work started, we logged in out time spent for this task and in total it gave us 6 hours instead of 10 hours. We did it faster than expected.

What we want to see: We want to see the bar (or something like this) on the Gantt chart which shows the estimated time for this task (10 hours) and which also shows the real time spent on this task (6 hours).

Is there any way to track this and see it on Gantt chart somehow? If yes, how we can do it?

From your description, it sounds like you are looking for Baselines in Structure.Gantt.

Baselines allow you to compare the current positions of tasks, groups and milestones in the timeline to the way they looked in the past, or to another saved schedule. Using Baselines, you can track schedule changes over time, compare two schedules for the same project, see how the schedule compares to actual Jira data, and more.

Do I understand correctly that to use the baseline function, I need to set up the new Structure for the project with tasks, then I need to set up timelines (start date / finish date, duration, etc.) for each ticket/task, then I create a new Baseline. After this, I can make any changes in start/finish date, duration, etc. and I will see on the Gantt diagram the initial baseline and changes I made. Correct?

You can use an existing structure if it already has the tasks you would want the chart to represent.

To add a Gantt chart to an existing structure, see Define Your Chart Manually

then I need to set up timelines (start date/finish date, duration, etc.) for each ticket/task,

You do need to define which fields to use for your timeline. Each ticket or task would need to have those fields populated.

There is a lot of information on the different ways to set up Scheduling in Structure.Gantt, available here.

Yes! the Baseline will appear as "greyed out tasks" on your Gantt chart

May I ask you 2 more questions, please?

1) In our work, we use the Original Estimate field (highlighted in blue) to understand the expected time to fulfill the task.

Could you, please, advise me if this field is used in Tempo Budgets? And if yes, where is it used?

2) We have a Jira Structure with list of tasks for the project. And we need to fill out the column "Original Estimate". Is it possible to do it via import from Excel file not to type everything by hands? (right now it was pupolated bu hands)
