Macro, plugins, Space Blueprint migration from Confluence on-premise to cloud

Hi Confluence Cloud Admins,

I have been administrating Confluence on-premise for some time and have written number of user macros, plugins and space blueprint. We are now in transition from Confluence on-premise to cloud. I am wondering if using migration service from Atlassian will take with it user macros, plugins and space blueprint to cloud instance.

Suggestions and guidance is highly appreciated.

User macros and server apps do not work on Cloud. You will need to evaluate what you have done with them all and see how to translate them to Cloud.

There are similar functions, and you can create things for Cloud that can do some of the stuff you've done on Server, but you are looking at re-writing them mostly from scratch, not "migrating"

It may be worth engaging with a partner for this - a lot of us have done a lot of Server to Cloud and have quite polished "this is how you might do this Server thing in Cloud"type stuff.

I don't get it really.

Why isn't there a Confluence App Cloud Migration Tool? Or at least an Confluence App Cloud Migration Guide?

What is the reason behind "User macros and server apps do not work on Cloud"? Please explain a little more thoroughly so we can understand how we actually can migrate, and how long time it would take to re-write apps and macros.

Because apps on Cloud and Server are two totally different things (they may well share some logic or even procedural code, but they're fundamentally different)

The example that springs to mind for me is Scriptrunner for Jira (the original Scriptrunner) - Jamie wrote that for Server before Cloud existed. Scriptrunner for Jira Cloud took a little while to arrive because we had to write it from scratch for a totally different framework, using totally different technologies.

Even when an app has a Server and Cloud version that do roughly the same thing, you have to understand that they are totally different pieces of software. To use the usual fruit-based comparison, you're not comparing apples with pears, you're comparing apples with mushrooms. There's a vast difference.

Every app you want to migrate is going to be different.

And as for user macros, that's a lot simpler - Confluence Cloud does not allow them. That's it. They're simply not there.

I try not to advertise here, but yes, I work for a partner who does a lot of Server to Cloud migrations. But I'm the wrong route to contact us - all I could do is put your details into the list of people for our sales people to talk to, and it would be quicker and faster for you to do that yourself.

So that means a lot of rewriting to be able to migrate to Cloud. I am unsure of how to express the costs, though. Any thoughts of that?
