Move file into a new repository but preserve file history

Hi team,

We are trying to copy one password file from the main repository to a new repository, but we need to have the file history as well. I've tried multiple ways already, but for some reason the history is not accurate.

Could you please confirm if there is a process to follow in order to accomplish this?

One option would be to fork the main repository which will preserve the history. The fork will create a copy. Each repository will have its own history unless you are using submodules.

Another note - be careful when storing password in git repositories. It is generally not recommended. This thread has some additional information: https://security.stackexchange.com/questions/191590/why-is-storing-passwords-in-version-control-a-bad-idea
