From Jira service desk to service management (Data Centre)

Good Afternoon,

Trust this finds you well.
I am opening this question thread with regards to the JIRA SERVICE MANAGEMENT (JSM).

We currently have data centre JIRA Service Desk Application (JSD) v4.6.1. And since this JSM is new, we would like to ask to a few questions for clarification.

1. Is the JSM available on trial basis please - (data centre version) ?
2. How can we "switch" from JSD to JSM? Any procedures or step by step guidelines?
3. Is there a particular JIRA Software version for JSM to be compatible?

Hi Jael,

Yes, but not yet. JSM isn't available at the time of this posting, but will be available the same as prior versions of Jira.
Update JSD the same as you would update JSD in the past.
Yes. It is the same relationship that JSD and Jira Core/Software have now.
Example: JSD 4.6.1 requires use of Jira Core/SW 8.6.1 because they share the same core base code.

@Joshua Sneed Contegix is correct. JSM will be available with version 4.14 and JSD will at that point be renamed.

Therefore since JSM will be available with version 4.14, then jira software must be version 8.14 right?

And may I kindly ask - whether the default of the comments is still external? And fields when placing requests/incidents are still limited please?

Hi Jael,

Specific information, such as changed to comments, is not currently available, but I would assume that most of the core functionality is going to remain the same or be extended. The TL;DR of JSM is that it is no longer going to be just a service desk tool and is being developed into a full ITSM tool. I believe you can try JSM Cloud to get an idea of what to expect. Cheers!
