The basics of the scaffolding plugin

Can anyone direct me to a basic overview of what the scaffolding plugin does? I can't find this anywhere. I can find the fields that each macro in the plugin allows, but am missing the big picture here.

I know it's a way to create templates, but can't you do that via an innate Confluence templating option?

The Scaffolding plugin allows you to define a form that represents a page.

Imagine a page that always has the same structure: title, something left, something right and a list of users at the bottom. You could write the wiki-code for that page or create a scaffolding that contains two text boxes (text left and right) and a list of users. So the editor would not have to mess around with the complex wiki code (multicolumn, userlnks) but only work with the form.

Another thing is that Confluence templates are only for initial filling the page. There is no back reference. With Scaffolding's live templates you can define the "link" between a page and a template. So if you edit the template, the page changes.
