MessagingException: Got bad greeting from SMTP host , response: [EOF]

Question

Hi

I want to setup the outgoing mail in Jira Service desk with Exchange, I always get the following error:
MessagingException: Got bad greeting from SMTP host: , port: 25, response: [EOF]

Anyone an idea how to resolve this issue?

We already use this smtp server in other applications

Other applications don't have an issue with this server.

Hi Karel,

I see that you are getting an error message in Jira when trying to connect it to this SMTP server.  However I have not found any other support cases in Jira that have shown this particular error message.   I would be interested to see if we can try to gather some more detailed logging from Jira to better understand the response.

Try following the steps for enabling debug logging for outgoing mail found in Enable mail debugging mode in Jira Server.  With this enabled, then try to recreate this same error message.  In turn this should then generate some more detailed logging you can find in $JIRAHOME/log/atlassian-jira-outgoing-mail.log

Perhaps if we can see some more logging details about the interaction between Jira and this mail server then we might have something more to go on here.  Try this and let me know the results.
