Maximum issues on "Jira Issue/Filter" Confluence macro

The Display options part of the configuration screen for the Jira Issue/Filter Confluence macro provides a "maximum issues" field that defaults to 1000.  If I try to increase the number I get a warning saying the number must be between 1 and 1000.  However, below the field it reads, "Leave empty to get all issues" (see photo).  Problem is, it won't allow you to leave the field empty!

Is there a fix or workaround to this?  All other posts in this community refer to the issue search filter and export maximums.  A new story was recently submitted (https://jira.atlassian.com/browse/JRASERVER-71188) so I know I'm not the only one with this problem.

Any ideas?!?

The 1000 number, unless it has been changed by the Jira administrator is set to a default of 1000 max issues returned. There are a variety of reasons for it but, were it set to allow the 5k records you have in your example, you could bring your Jira instance to its knees.

Rather than what would be a huge pull of records through the API that could also be potentially detrimental to the environment, I would highly recommend breaking the list up rather a lot.
