File viewer macros (PDF, Excel etc.) do not find file in new page

When

creating a new page,
attaching file and
adding a file preview macro (PDF, Word, Excel, Powerpoint), the macro does not find the file attached in step 2.

The workaround is to save the page and straightaway go back in edit mode. Now it's possible to add the preview macro and choose the attached file.

Am I doing something wrong or does the page really need to be saved once? Sadly, this extends my page history in a undesired way.
