JIRA does work with websphere, but it is NOT supported, and hence not recommended, and there's no formal compatibility matrix - the best I can tell you is "try it with the latest version and if you have issues, work backwards"
For version, see https://confluence.atlassian.com/display/JIRA/Supported+Platforms For size, the hard answer is "it depends on how much data you want to put into JIRA, which is a function of number of issues, complexity and usage". But the short answer is "you'll only need a few GB even for a large JIRA with hundreds of thousands of issues"
See https://confluence.atlassian.com/display/JIRA/Supported+Platforms (But... run it on Linux. It's faster, easier, faster, cheaper, faster and far more maintainable)
Download JIRA from Atlassian's site. Don't use the "WAR/EAR" version, and you'll get Tomcat bundled (and support for EAR/WAR is going away soon anyway, so it will always be bundled with Tomcat)

HI Nic,

Thanks for your quick support.

Continuation on the 3rd question . my doubt is:

Can we have Database and applications server for JIRA on different platforms and what are the steps we need to follow for it?

Thanks and Regards,

Nidhi Sharma

Nic Brough -Adaptavist-

Absolutely, doesn't matter if the database is on the same server or a completely different one, and it's fine to run Jira on Linux and the database on BSD if that's what you want. (I'd always shy away from running anything on Windows, but if that's better supported in your organisation, then use it as you see fit) For connecting them, just follow the documentation. It's a pretty standard "use java database connection to local or remote server" setup

While installing JIRA if we are keeping application server and database server at same platform, then what will be the system requirements (key instances required).
If we have suppose 10000 issues approximately which we want to keep in JIRA, then what should be the size of oracle database.

Nic Brough -Adaptavist-

I'd start with https://confluence.atlassian.com/display/JIRA/JIRA+Requirements (and recommend using Linux for the application server if you've got support in your organisation for it)

Nic Brough -Adaptavist-

Oh, and the Oracle database will not be huge - you'll struggle to provision a server with a disk *small* enough to cause a problem! Worry more about attachments - if your users attach loads of files, they go on the disk on the application server (where JIRA runs) and can quickly build up if they're keen!

hii Nic,

Few more queries:

how security monitoring can be done through Arcsight and SIEM in JIRA?

2. Whether we can achieve high availability through JIRA data center and if Yes. how it can be done?

3. how can we achieve custom solution for authorization and authentication through MSEC in JIRA?

Nic Brough -Adaptavist-

Depends on what you want to monitor - "security" is a general concept, not detailed enough to start to explain what you want from Arcsight and JIRA working together. You might want Arcsight alerts to land in JIRA, or use Arcsight to monitor JIRA access or something else.
Start at https://www.atlassian.com/enterprise/data-center - Atlassian explain it better than I do
You'll need to be clear about what you mean by msec - millisecond? (Yes, ok, that one is facetious, but MSEC usually refers to multicast security, which is done by your network and has little to do with authorisation or authentication, and certainly nothing at an application level)

Hi Nic,

Thanks for the support.

Can you please let us know how we can get queue management through JIRA. We have checked it through JIRA service desk but it is not showing how to assign an issue to various queues?

Nic Brough -Adaptavist-

I'm not sure what you mean by "queue management", or what it has to do with websphere. I'd suggest you ask a new question if this is not a websphere thing. You'll need more detail too - if by "queue" you mean "person who needs to deal with the request", then get them to look at their "assigned to me" filter for a start

nidhi sharma_5u7dge

Additionally please let us know for installing JIRA in our application which version of Ms/sql should we use. Enterprise or standard and why?

Nic Brough -Adaptavist-

As I said before, whichever best suits your organisation

nidhi sharma_5u7dge

Hi Nic, It is not related to websphere We are going to install JIRA at organization level. We are We will be having around 10000 users from 150 teams so if we wish to assign a issue to proper team in a queue /group how can we do it??.if issue is assigned in wrong queue/groups how can we migrate that issue to a different queue?? we tried it but unable to find it. please provide the answer considering the query at large scale. e.g.. support team has application 1 and application 2 . we wish to assign it to application support team 2 but we have assigned to application support team 1. how can we migrate and how will it identify whether it went in which queue

Nic Brough -Adaptavist-

>It is not related to websphere Then a question about websphere is the wrong place to ask
