Can I set default for all cascading select parents?

I have a cascading select field. Looks like this:

Monthly

...agsite

...final

Weekly

...final

...hold

Urgent

..... none

I can set the default to be "Montly,agsite" which is fine.

But in addition, I would like to set what the default child choice is when the user selects a different parent.

If I can't do that, can I require the user to select a child rather than leave the selection blank?
