Bulk delete disabled users who have not contributed

Question

The previous Confluence admin has left the company last winter and now I am trying to take a good care of the server.

I found that there are more than 3000 disabled users that could be deleted but I'm not sure if any of those has contributed.

I found a nice article how to do this for a single user but I am looking for a more scalable or automated solution.

There must be a way to do this in bulk - either by SQL query or some kind of a script with API calls.

Have you guys had to do such bulk deletion?

How did you do it, what worked best for you?

We are using SAML Single Sign On (SSO) Confluence from resolution and the users are synced from Azure AD.

The previously used LDAP directory is currently disabled.

Sometime in the past the sync task was not restricted and it synced all AD user objects to Confluence.

Now that the sync is restricted, the unneeded users are disabled in Confluence and we are looking for a smart way to delete them - not manually one by one as in the article I mentioned, and we do not want to delete accounts that have contributed (created content or commented).

How are the users managed?
In the internal confluence directory or via an external user administration (AD, LDAP, crowd ...)?
