Filter parents based on child's criteria

Hi,

I'm stuck on this problem and could't find an suitable solution. Hopefully, you can help me.

My situation: We have parent tickets ("Story"). Each Story has exactly one child ticket ("Subtask"). I am looking for a JQL query for parent tickets which also includes criteria from their subtasks:

"I want all Story tickets, where the corresponding child ticket has for example a certain assignee or reporter".

I tried many functions (linkedIssuesOf, hasSubtasks, etc.) but they all could not meet my requirements. Does anybody have an idea? Thanks!

Hi Marcel,

Sadly you cannot achieve the desired search using standard features on Jira, you must go for a third-party app instead. Using i.e. JQL Booster Pack you can type the following:

I want all Story tickets, where the corresponding child ticket has for example a certain assignee or reporter, i.e.:

type = Story AND issue IN parentsOf("type IN subTaskIssueTypes() AND assignee = username")

Note that this is just an example, you must tune above query to fit your needs

Using this app you can also query other issues relations, check:

you can only achieve this using some third party plugin like : JQL Search Extensions for Jira & reports

Its available for server and cloud both and have a lot of rich built in queries.

For your case you can use the following query and it will return all issue where sub task assignee = abc

issue in parentOf("assignee= abc")

If you want to search only those stories whose assignee=abc then use following

type = story and issue in parentOf("assignee= abc")

Basically, it worked

I only had to adjust the following:

issueFunction IN parentsOf

instead of

issue IN parentsOf
