Chrome extension JIRA Assistent cannot connect

Question

I want to use the Google Chrome extension JIRA Assistant. To do this, I have to enter some information in the JIRA assistant connection pop up to make contact with my JIRA account.

The following information is requested:
-Server Name: ???

-Server URL: https: //********.atlassian.net/jira (I use the URL of the JIRA account of the company where I work)

-Username:

-Password:

I looked in my JIRA account account settings to see what my JIRA password is. It says:

Managed account. Your account is managed by Google. Go to your Google account settings to change your password.

My question: Where do I find the Server name?
Do I have to use my google username and password to make a connection between JIRA Assistant and my JIRA account?

Hi Harmen, welcome to the Community!

I see more than one Chrome extension with that name, so I'm going to assume we're talking about this one which was recently updated and has 30,000+ installs.

Given what you've mentioned, you're using Jira Cloud. Let's go over each of the fields you need to configure:

* Server name: This is presumably just a field used to help you identify which connections you have set up. If you are only going to use it with one Jira instance, I would put "<Your company> Jira" as the name.

* For server URL, you'll want to use:https://*********.atlassian.net

(notice there is no trailing path at the end of the URL)
* Username: the email address used for your Google account
* Password: In Jira Cloud, you'll want to use what's called an API Token instead of your account password. Details about how to use these with Atlassian Cloud are listed here. In short, you generate a new token from id.atlassian.com and use that in place of a password. The advantage to this is that you can have multiple tokens on your account (one per application) and they can be easily revoked! It also keeps your Google password from being stored by a third party.

Hopefully these all make sense. While I'm not familiar with this particular Chrome extension, I can answer more questions about getting any of the above configuration settings if you need.
