How can I change the default value of story points?

Story points is one of the fields that appears on every story, task and sub-task. For some reason the value of this field defaults to 3 points for every task/sub-task/story created for my project. I can't figure out how to edit the default value or anything about the story points field for that matter (I would like the value to default to "none" or -1). I would settle for creating a new custom field but I can't figure out how to do that either - might be an access problem? Thanks for your help!

Assuming that you are using jira cloud, here the step by step procedure to avoid your problem.

Step 1: Go to issues --> custom filed --> and select Story points filed

Step 2: Select option context & default value

Step 3: Press Edit default value and set as you required.

Hello Kevin,

Are you an administrator? You need to have admin rights to edit the custom field.

If you are using Jira Server, you need to do the following:

Go to Jira Administration > Issues.
Select Custom fields from the menu in the Fields section.
