Possible to use groups for free user as well in connection with Jira Service Desk?

We use one Jira and Confluence project / space for various stakeholder, separated by user groups which worked fine so far. Now we made the move to Jira Service Desk (Data Center version). JSD uses organisations to easily separate different stakeholder, which works fine. Before the move all of our now "customers" needed to be licensed users to be able to use groups on the side of Confluence. I do know that with the cloud version, you can export the organisations from JSD to Confluence but it seems that's not possible for the data center version, is that correct? Which would mean, although using JSD I'm still forced to work with licensed user to be able to separate the connected knowledge space (Confluence) for different stakeholder, right?

Hi,

you can connect only a single Confluence space to a JSD project. This Conflunce space gets specific space permissions to be able to be accessed by JSD customers not requiring a Confluence & Jira license. This access thru the JSD portal can be configured in two ways: All active users & customers can access the space without a Confluence license OR only users with a Confluence license can access the space.

The second option allows for the usage of user groups to restrict users to certain pages. The first option doesn't check space access & restrictions on a user base at all.

So, you will be forced to use option 2: All users need a Confluence license & the mapping is left to the user groups you use on the Confluence side.
