Unsupported platforms and upgrade to 7

Hello, during upgrade to latest 6.x, a dialog appeard announcing that since version 7.0 any unsupported platform won't be able to install and run Bitbucket.

We're running BitBucket / Jira / Atlassian / Bamboo in our XStreamOS/illumos based infrastructure for more than a year now, and we're satisfied with it running in zones and zfs.

Why version 7.0 should be banned from the solaris / illumos echosystem?

Any chance this is not going to be true?

May be we can help to certify XStreamOS/illumos as a supported platform?

It's not quite a case of "banned", just "unsupported".  It will almost certainly continue to work for quite a while.  But Atlassian are moving to shrink their support base away from the edge cases. 

At the time of me scribbling this answer, the edge cases are "Anything but Windows and Linux" - the server world runs on Linux variants at the moment.  (And a lot of us are looking forward to the day when Windows falls into that edge-case).

As for whether you can help - while there is a general direction, Atlassian would not rule out external help supporting stuff they're looking to deprecate for while longer if it suits enough customers.    This is something that you should talk to your TAM about (if you don't have a TAM, let us know here and we can ask Atlassian.  Be warned that you'll still need to be large enough to justify it)
