JQL to filter a sprint board by assignee but include epics they aren't assigned to

Hi Gang,

I'm working on a team where the Stories aren't the same assignees as the sub-tasks.  When we use the quick filter during standup to select an assignee, their sub-tasks show along with the Story, but they are grouped under a section labelled "Issues without Epics".

The Stories are in fact assigned to an Epic, but neither the Epic or the Story are assigned to the user, only the Sub-task.  Since the Story is displaying (along with the sub-task) shouldn't the Epic also display?  The epic has no assignee.

Oh and the board query includes all issue types...

Thanks for your answer Jack - I don't know of any way to traverse the relationship between sub-task/story/epic in JQL.

Fyi, the board is grouped by Epic (which you probably gathered given the "issues without epic" label).

When the "assignee = xxx" quick filter is applied:

If the Story is either "unassigned" or assigned to the same person as the sub-task then it sits in the correct Epic in the board.  If the Story is assigned to a different person to the sub-task, it ends up in the "issues without Epics" group.

Well you would think so but in fact sub-tasks are not directly associated with the epic. Whereas the story is via the epic link, no such association exists between the epic and sub-task.
