Portfolio: How are target dates using auto-schedule-function calculated?

Hi all, 

we are using JIRA (Server) in our project and are starting to use Portfolio. 

We use Epics and Stories and estimation is done with Story Points. 

How is the auto-schedule-plan be calculated? On which information are target start and target end date based on?

The auto-schedule will take any target dates that you have entered on Stories/Sub-tasks etc and calculate the target start/end of the parent Epic.

It will also take into account any dependencies between Jira issues.

But if you haven't entered any dates at all, the Auto Schedule won't do anything with them.
