Has anyone ran into concerns with the clearing of Manual Test Steps when changing the Test Type?

In XRAY, when changing the Test Type field from Manual to Automated[Generic] is there a way to keep the manual steps from being cleared?  What were the reasons for this approach?  Wouldn't you always want to keep the manual steps although the test was automated.

Hello! Unfortunately the link  XRAY-862 does not open. Are there any updates? How is it possible to keep manual steps with changing test type to Automated[Generic]?
