Unable to change the status of subtask.

Question

I am unable to change the status of the subtask. I can only change the status when I move the subtask back to an issue. 
Is there a way to change the workflow or do something, to be able to change the status without the need of moving the subtask back to an issue?

Hi @Tamanna

Worth checking your sub-tasks' transition properties (conditions, validators, etc) to ensure there is not anything stopping you from transitioning sub-tasks.

For example, if to move an issue to 'Closed' you had to be the assignee, you would not be given an option to close the sub-task unless you were assigned.

This more complex workflow might need Site Admin access to review like this. With this access:

* Go to Jira Administration > Issues > Workflows
* Select your Workflow (I prefer Diagram view for this)
* Click a transition you're trying to make - this is the arrow between two statuses
* Click on Conditions or Validators from the pop-up which appears and look for anything which could limit the use of transitions - such as Conditions like Only Assignee, Only Reporter, User Is In Project Role, etc.

^ You can also edit the workflow from these screens if there is another issue - for example, if there were no transitions out of the first status then it would be impossible to transition an issue!

Hello,

Go to project settings -> workflows and find the workflow, which you use for the sub task issue type. Then modify this workflow to your needs.
