Limit status options in issue view

if you have large number of teams with slighty different boards and using different status ,columns etc., working off the same project - then the workflow button ( plus other screens whereworkflow option is available ) for all teams will have a massive amount of statuses (currently about 30 status') -

is there any way to restrict statuses to the particular board that an issue is part of ?

What 'board' are you talking about? (A greenhopper one?)

You could create different workflows for different issue types and link them together with the workflow scheme, that should limit the amount of options your users have.

But another idea might be to see if it's possible to spread out your teams over several projects with each their own configuration.
