Markdown: using pipe in inline code in table

Question

I would like to use a pipe symbol in an inline code block inside a markdown table.

GitHub-style markdown allows you to escape the vertical bar with a backslash in table code blocks, but it seems Bitbucket has not implemented this yet. I was able to use the alternative unicode character "⏐" (U+23D0) as a holdover until this is fixed.
