Confluence SQL Server 2014 backup

Hi there,

We want to upgrade from confluence v5.10 to 6.15. We are using MS SQL server 2014. I was following the upgrade instruction and I am stuck at backup database step for following 2 reasons:

• We don't have login for SQL server management studio, we are using Windows Authentication - I am in Administrators group - have admin rights.
• I thought of performing backup by copying mdf and ldf files - but ldf file size is massive - 600GB. We don't care about the log transactions - to shrink the ldf file I have to connect to dB instance first which we are not able to.

Could you please help me, how to backup in this situation?

It was as simple as right clicking and 'Run As Administrator'.

For large transaction log file, I first created a compressed backup (compressed from 600GB to 50GB). Then shrunk the log file down to to 200MB.

The log file had full transactions since 2017 - now I have created a weekly recurring backup.
