Why do I see 2 users in drop down menu when searching in Permission helper?

I'm attempting to check permissions on a user by using Permission helper within Jira. In the user field, when I start typing the user, two exact names and email populate. The names are the same, the emails are the same, in addition to the user's avatar. 

 

I'm checking if the user has permission to modify reporter within the project. One of the names has permission, the other does not.

 

When I check the system user management page, I only see one user that populates.

Have you got more than one user directory? If so, probably an user with the same username exists in more than one directory. eg. Internal Jira Directotory and LDAP.

 

When searching in system user management page, only the user in the first user directory is retrieve in case the username exists in multiple directories.
