How to inactivate a project in JIRA

Question

There are few projects that are unused. Want them inactivated and not deleted. How do i do it?

I usually do the following to 'Archive' projects:

* Create a new permission scheme, where only jira-administrators are listed against each permission. 
* Associate this permission scheme with the project to archive.  Standard users will not be able to see the project any more.
* Rename the project to something like "zzARCHIVE - <name>".

or, if there is little chance of the project being needed in future, then simply take a full system backup and then delete the project.  If it needs to be brought back in the future, then the project can be imported from the backup.
