Is there a way to disable collaborative editing on a document?

I am trying to get a Word library together and I only want people to edit the documents one at a time, rather than collaborative editing where one might edit over another. Any suggestions are welcomed.

From confluence out of the box, I would say no. You can disable collaborative editing on the settings. But this will not help you with attachements. 

There is a plugin for that: Cenote Lockpoint. With this plugin, you can lock attachements, so nobody can change anything until you delock it again.
