Show Board Rank, in Issue View and Board

We have Ranking on our boards enabled.
I can see the Rank (which may span across multiple pages)
How do I communicate a rank value 1/87 (for First) or 87/87 in the Issue View?

I would also like this communicate within the board.

It seems without these options, Viewers of a large board are left to count.

How can I communicate the Rank Value in a meaning ful way on the board and in the issue viewer?

Update added for clarity
I am looking for useful meaningful Rank Position that matches the position viewed on the board.

If something is at the top of the board to halfway through, I would have no way of knowing without explicitly looking at the board.

Nor would I have any kind of tracking on the item itself.

Ranking in Jira is based upon lexoranking or in a bigger word - lexicographical ranking used in ranking items w/in a DB. While you can actually display the value, and I do in one scenario, it isn't really human consumable (at least not this human). It is string sortable however which is the way it works.

Now with this said, getting back to your requirement, there really isn't a good way to achieve a field that auto-renumbers your backlog. However, I would argue that it isn't really necessary. At the top of the backlog you will see the number of issues in the backlog and the position in the list provides the relative ranking. Of course that is simply my opinion. You might want to look at the Comala Agile Ranking addon. I looked at this once before and it seems quite interesting/powerful. In the end, for me, I could not justify the cost as my desire didn't equate to a critical requirement/pain-point.

Finally, there may be a way to use a scripting addon that would update the value in a custom field based upon your backlog but unsure.

I have it in a column now and yes it's not human consumable.

I really don't like expecting our viewers to look at the board to understand where they ID's are ranked.
We share what Boards they are attached to,

I may need to break this list up into multiple (and meaningful queues).

Rank is locked internal field which Jira manages by it's own when you drag and drop the issues on the board.

Thus, the position of the ticket on the backlog is a signification of it's Rank. But you can still add the "Rank" field on the issue view screen of ticket by configuring that in the board but the rank field which is displayed is not something which is of much use to the end-users as can be interpreted by Jira only.

I find it frustrating that the answers to questions on "i want to show the rank" is that we don't need it, or that it's not necessary - when obviously we do need it and it is necessary.

Here's a scenario - I have a backlog with thousands of items in it. As a product manager, I have these prioritized for my engineering team.

I have a business partner that will ask me where on the board is story 'abc' or when can I expect to have my story 'def' addressed?

What I was able to do in the past is say that this is # 87 out of our 150,000 issues, so my business owner now knows a general approximation of when their issue will be addressed. But instead, today, I say it's somewhere near the top, or it's at the bottom, or i will count down from the top of the backlog to see what # it is in the priority list.

Perhaps the position on the board is different than the "rank", but I know it was enormously useful in the past and frustrating that it's not available today. At least take our suggestions seriously and do not tell us that we don't need what we need.
